Excerpt from the Annual Parochial Meeting for the Parish of St. Martin Tuesday, April 26th 1927
Return
In presenting this report for the past year the Chairman said that he had hoped that the new Church Hall would have been ready for use but unavoidable delays had occurred. The building was now in the course of erection and the Bishop of the Diocese had promised to be present at the laying of the Foundation Stone on May 25th. The year had been one of achievement. The debt on the Church of the Transfiguration and the organ had been wiped out and several improvements had been made to the fabric. The exterior of the Church of the Transfiguration had been repainted. The Sunday Schools were developing but the need for additional teachers still existed. Boy Scout and Girl Guide troops had been formed and a branch of the Mothers Union inaugurated. Many gifts both in kind and money had been received for the Church.
Confirmation candidates numbered 32 and there had been 31 Baptisms. The financial position of the Church and the Sherwood Mission was sound – the accounts for the year ended 31st December 1926 showed a small balance in hand.
The conclusion the Chairman expressed his thanks to the various organisations and individual members who by their service and gifts had helped the work of the Church during the past year.
